My first ever published illustration work appeared in the original Warhammer 40, 000 rulebook Rogue Trader in 1987.

I was very inspired by the game's dark gothic SF/Fantasy background which suited my illustration style very well. When I drew this image I had seen very little by way of reference for Orks and, for Marines, nothing below the belt: Hence he lacks the ubiquitous flared boots. Upper torso armour details were based on concept art by Will Rees.
